Our state senate neighbor to the south in the Syracuse area has a new title and responsibilities.
The WDT reported the following on its website.
In a move designed to assuage concerns of downstate Democratic dominance, Senate Majority Leader Malcolm A. Smith named an upstate senator to an important leadership role.
During a Thursday visit to Syracuse, Mr. Smith named Sen. David J. Valesky, D-Oneida, vice president pro tempore of the Senate. In this role, Mr. Valesky becomes an ex-officio (non-voting) member of all Senate committees and will be the highest ranking upstate senator.
“I am honored to serve in the new Senate majority and will work to be a constant voice and advocate for upstate concerns,” Mr. Valesky said in a press release. “Chief among those concerns is economic revitalization and job creation.”
