It is incredibly nice to write a headline like that. A NY Times/CBS poll reported today that
hope in this country right now is incredibly high. This is the question that was asked.
What is your best guess about the U.S. five years from now if things go pretty much as you expect?
The results:
61% said "better"
17% said "about the same"
19% said "worse"
3% apparently didn't understand the question
One of the really interesting things about the question is that it gave people a five year timeframe. Therefore, my assumption is that the respondents are not only really positive but they don't expect immediate results either. The crusty old naysaying reactionary curmudgeons, such as local blogger Political IV, may have to adjust their thinking about the incoming Obama administration. Good for the country. I haven't seen poll results like that in a long, long time.
