Elections commissioners HAVA headache

Voters in Oswego County and across New York state may be using the old automatic voting machines (AVM) for another year, despite federal mandates requiring that states use newer ballot-marking devices to comply with the Help America Vote Act (HAVA).

Voters in Oswego County and across New York state may be using the old automatic voting machines (AVM) for another year, despite federal mandates requiring that states use newer ballot-marking devices to comply with the Help America Vote Act (HAVA).
While 2008 was slated to be the last year for the aging voting machines, the county has gone beyond that deadline due to problems with the testing lab that was selected to verify the quality and functionality of the voting machines.
