Oswego, N.Y. -
More than 15,000 youth across the state took advantage of the new junior big game hunting licenses, which were made available for the first time this hunting season. The law, passed in July, allows 14 and 15 year-old hunters to go after big game, such as deer and bears, under the supervision of someone older than 21.

"I was pleased to see this become law and am pleased to see how many took advantage of the new license," Assemblyman Will Barclay, R-Pulaski said. "The new license gets more hunters out into the field and allows families to hunt together." State Senator Darrel Aubertine, D-Cape Vincent, was also pleased to see the bill passed, as he had sponsored a very similar bill when he was the co-chairman of the sportsmen’s caucus in the state Assembly. “There are states out there, in my estimation, that take a much more pro-sportsmen approach to hunting than New York has in the past,” he said.
