The battle for the 2010 GOP gubernatorial nomination is on.

Fifteen Republican county chairs have signed a letter urging Erie County Executive Chris Collins to run for governor next year, citing his success at holding the fiscal line in Western New York and exhibiting "bold and committed leadership."

The chairs hail from - Albany, Erie, the Bronx, Allegany, Franklin, Livingston, Orleans, Rensselaer, Cattaraugus, Jefferson, Seneca, Onondaga, Genesee, Delaware and Cayuga.
